28 April 1904 - West Branch Times

Hannah Hendershott, daughter of Jacob and Lydia Hendershott, was born in Ohio, April 11, 1826. After a lingering illness, she died April 22, 1904, aged 78 years and 11 days. She with her brother Elijah, and sister Catharine Hendershott, came to Iowa in 1853 and opened a new farm in Graham township, Johnson county, and successfully conducted it for about ten years. Sometime after the death of her brother, on this farm, she purchased a farm one mile north of West Branch, and prospered in the management of her business, until about six years ago her health failed and she was obliged to leave her farm. She was prudent and conservative in her business management, energetic and persevering. She was a kind and accommodating neighbor, ever ready to render assistance to the needy and afflicted. She joined the United Brethren church at Honey Grove, and was an earnest Christian worker.

The last of her father's family, her remains will lie beside her brother and sister in the beautiful cemetery at West Branch, Iowa. Her cousins in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Lydia Heppenstall and Miss Reece, of West Liberty; Ralph S. Smith, Montezumea; Henry Negus, Iowa City, and twelve of the Mather family cousins of Springdale and West Branch, besides numbers of her old neighbors and friends. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. W. B. Davis, the resident pastor at West Branch, Ia.
