John P. Leonard was born March 30, 1874, at the old homestead at North Liberty, Iowa, and died after a brief illness of Spanish influenza at his home in Sedan, Kansas, Tuesday, Oct. 29th, 1918, aged 44 years and 8 months.

He attended the public school at North Liberty and later the High school at Springdale, Iowa. In June, 1895 he was united in marriage to Katherine Miles. To this union was born 12 children, three dying in infancy and one daughter, Marcia Leonard Cahill, dying at her home in Paxton, Neb., June 20, 1918, at the age of 19.

The body was brought from Sedan by Marjorie Leonard, a daughter of the deceased. The surviving brother and all the sisters except Jessie Leonard Alsdurf attended the funeral.

The services were conducted by the Masonic lodge, the ceremony being beautifuly given by Brother Wm. Cotteral of Tipton. The body was laid to rest in the old cemetery where the parents and two children of the deceased are buried.
