6 October 1904 - West Branch Times

Died, at her home in West Branch, Iowa, 17th of 9th month, 1904, Lydia B., widow of Wm. H. Oliphant, and daughter of James B. and Sarah Bruff, in the 83rd year of her age. She was born at Damascus, Ohio, 26th of 1st month, 1822, where she was married to Wm. H. Oliphant in 1851, and near which place they resided until the fall of 1863, removing to West Branch where she resided until her death.

She was a person of excellent judgment and of superior character, both morally and religiously, and was highly respected and loved by her large circle of acquaintances. She was very charitable with her means, ever ready to lend a hand to those in need, yet unpretentious in the exercise of her benevolence. Being one of the early settlers of this, then newly developing country, she bore the vicissitudes incident to pioneer life with patience and fortitude.

Her funeral was held in Friends Meeting house on 2nd day, the 19th of 9th month, and was largely attended, showing the esteem in which she was held by her neighbors and friends.
