Word was received last week of the death of Allen Varney, residing at Bennett, Neb. Mr. Varney was a resident of Springdale in early days and was educated at Springdale, leaving for the west about 1867. His father was one of the pioneers of Cedar county, the family was highly respected and influential in many departments. Allen was a soldier in the second Iowa cavalry. Deceased has a host of warm friends in old Cedar who will be sorry to learn of his death.
