4 April 1907 - West Branch Times

Mrs. Margaret McKarahan, who has for years been a resident of Honey Grove, has gone to her reward. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Rebecca Ramage, being born in Washington, Penn., May 23rd, 1822. She died at her home five miles northeast of West Branch, March 21st, 1907, aged 87 years, 9 months, 28 days.

She was married to John McKarahan in Alleghany City, Penn., on May 8th, 1845. To them were born five sons and two daughters. The husband and three children have preceeded her into the shadows of the valley. The four surviving children have the sympathies of a very wide circle of loyal and steadfast friends.

Mrs. McKarahan has been of unusual robust and vigorous constitution, and when she became ill during the latter part of December, it was confidently expected that she would be abundantly able to recover. She, herself, had unbounded hope. But the struggle prolonged itself till March 21, and then she yielded to that hand which eventually is reached out to us all. And she met it as one who has long been resigned to the will of God. She was converted in childhood, and for about seventy-five years was a patient follower of Jesus Christ. Through all these years she was identified with the Methodist Episcopal church. For a long time she was a member of the church at Oasis, and when the Honey Grove church was organized, her membership was transferred there.

The funeral services were held in the Honey Grove church, March 23, by Rev. H. F. Dorcas, her pastor, assisted by Rev. F. H. Linn, of West Branch. She was buried in Zion Chapel cemetery at Oasis, beside her husband, and son, William. During her closing days she gave some expression to her faith and trust in God, verifying the declaration of the prophet, "At evening time it shall be light."
