Captain J. S. Watson of Downey died on Friday, Dec. 24th, his illness was of short duration, cancer of the stomach, he was seventy-one years old, and leaves a widow and two children, and a multitude of his friends to mourn his loss. Mr. Watson was a citizen of this township for over thirty years, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him, for his integrity of character, kind and gentle disposition. For many years in his early life he was a sea captain which gave rise to the familiar prefix to his name.
