9 July 1903 - West Branch Times

Miss Mary A. Brown died at 7:30 o'clock Sunday evening. Her death was not unexpected, as she has been quite low with a gradual decline for some weeks, her illness seemed to be beyond medical aid. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock Tuesday and was conducted by Rev. Furniss of West Liberty, assisted by Rev. D. Wallace MacMillan, of this place.

23 July 1903 - West Branch Times

Mary Ann Brown was born in Butler county, Pa., April 11, 1833, and died in West Branch, Ia., July 5, 1903. Her childhood and youth were spent on the homestead near old Middlesex church, where her father and beloved and only sister lie. In 1864 she removed to Iowa with her mother and brothers, and has resided ever since in West Branch and vicinity. We, her only nephews and nieces, realize the loss of one who has watched over us all our lives with an untiring zeal in our temporal and spiritual welfare.

The missionary and aid societies have lost a useful member; her hands never grew weary and her means were never withheld. The missionary in far away Chili and Coe college will miss per prayers and her financial aid. With more than usual intelligence, she always kept up her interest in the current events of the day, in the past history and the future of our beloved country, whose birthday was being celebrated as she lay peacefully dying in her lovely home, surrounded by her loved ones. M.B.C.
