1 December 1887 - The Local Record

Sudden and unexpected came the announcement early Tuesday afternoon of the death of Thomas James of Springdale from neuralgia of the heart. He had been slightly afflicted at times for several weeks with neuralgia or rheumatic pains in the chest but felt no unusual symptoms until about 9 o'clock Monday evening when all the pain centered at the heart and his bodily suffering became terrible. Everything within the reach of human skill was done for him but without avail. Death came to his relief at about two o'clock the following day.

Mr. James was one of the earliest settlers of this part of the country and one of our best known and most respected citizens. His loss will be greatly felt by the community, and the sorrowing family have a large circle of sympathizing friends.
