11 September 1884 - The Local Record

A. J. Martin, who has been ill so many months breathed his last Monday evening at 11 o'clock. He made a courageous struggle to recover, but had to yield at last.

He was born in Pomeroy Co., Ohio, 1852. In 1854 his parents moved to Illinois; his father died eight years after. For the past ten years he has resided in Iowa.

He was converted at a meeting held at this place by Rev. H. Bargelt, and united with the M.E. Church, Feb. 6, 1884.

Of a quiet amiable disposition he was highly esteemed by all. His attachments to his friends, as well as his appreciation of kindness was remarkably strong, and he passed away with the full assurance of that peace which crowns the life beyond.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Wednesday at 10 o'clock A.M. by the pastor, Rev. I. C. Lusk. The West Branch Cornet Band, of which he was an elected member, acted as bearers. Some beautiful flower crosses and wreaths graced the casket, and a profusion of choice bouquets were furnished by sympathizing friends.

An almost heart-broken mother, and one sister, (Mrs. Rogers) are left of the family.
