26 March 1908 - West Branch Times

Uncle Aaron Gruwell, the oldest man in this community, died of old age Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m., at the home of his son A. C. Gruwell, aged nearly 91 years. Aunt Bathsheba, his wife, was nearly 91 at the time of her death a year ago last September. This aged coupled observed the 69th anniversary of their marriage a year ago last June, an account of which was published in The Times soon after. Uncle Aaron's remains were laid beside those of his wife in Honey Grove cemetery last Tuesday, the funeral service being held at the home of his son.

Aaron Gruwell was born in Stark county, Ohio, June 8th, 1817; was married to Bathsheba Slater in 1837. They came to Iowa in 1854 and settled on a farm in Gower township where they continued to reside until some years ago, since which time they made their home with their son near West Branch. There were born to them six children, three of whom survive, namely: Brinton T. and A. Clark, of West Branch and Mrs. Hannah Hardin, of Plato.
