Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the St. Mary's church, Tipton, for Mr. John Whalen, of Cedar Rapids, who passed away at University hospital, in Iowa City last Saturday afternoon. The Rev. M. Moriarty, pastor of the St. Mary's church, officiated. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery.

Mr. Whalen was born in Tipton, Ia. March 1st, 1877, and was 56 years and 11 days of age at time of his death. He grew to manhood here and will be well remembered by the many old home friends in this community. He has resided in Cedar Rapids the past fifteen years, where he has been employed as night watchman at the Merchants National bank building the last eight years.

Surviving, besides the widow, are one brother, James Whalen of Davenport; four sisters, Mrs. Chris Anderson, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Hickey and Mrs. William Shaffer, of Tipton, and Mrs. Wilbur Reed, of Lowden, Iowa.

His brother Joe Whalen, who resided at Norway, Ia., preceded him in death just eight months ago to the day.
