3 January 1895 - West Branch Times

Early on Monday morning the sad announcement reached town of the sudden and unexpected death of Joshua Gilbert, which occurred at about 2 o'clock that morning from paralysis. He had not been well for some time though not confined to his bed, and retired that night evening feeling about as usual. At ten o'clock Mrs. Gilbert awoke and found him on the floor by the bedside on his knees seemingly making an effort to get back into bed, she spoke, but he made no answer, she then tried to assist him, but soon found it an impossibility for her to get him back on the bed, and hurried to the nearest neighbor, Wm. Thomas a quarter of a mile away. When Mr. Thomas found him he was apparently insensible and never recovered. Dr. Leech was summoned, but he was beyond all medical assistance and passed away at 2 o'clock. The deceased was in his 59th year he was married about three years ago to Rebecca Hogue, who survives him to mourn the loss of a congenial companion and affectional husband. He also leaves several children and other near relatives in Ohio. The remains were shipped yesterday to Ohio for interment.
