23 November 1916 - West Branch Times

Charles Lorin Jenkinson of Downey, who died November 5th at the University hospital in Iowa City was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Jenkinson and was almost two years of age.

His illness lasted only a week and in that time every effort was made to save the little life. Besides the parents, a sister, Irene and three brothers, Ernest, Harry and Harland survive. The child was a most patient sufferer and in spite of his youth, responded to the requests of nurses and physicians and aided them as best he could in their battle for him.

Brief funeral services were held from the home, followed by those at the M.E. church, both in charge of Rev. J. S. Wood of New London, former local pastor, and a warm friend of the family. At the services Mrs. Fred Tharp sang "Baby Hands" and a quartet, Mrs. Tharp, Miss Eva Hogan, S. L. Loy and Frank Hormel sang, "Looking this Way", "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" "There'll be no Night there" and "Asleep in Jesus".

The pall bearers were the Misses Bertha King, Zoe Lodge, Verda Smith and Helen Mackey. Burial was made in the Downey cemetery.
