12 June 1906 - The Tipton Advertiser

Henry Sherwood passed away at his home in Tipton early Saturday morning after a long illness. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 83 years, 7 months and 17 days, and his death was not unexpected. He was born in the city of New York, Oct. 23, 1823, and early in life learned the drug business and later became successful as a wholesale druggist, which occupation he followed for 10 years.

He was among the early settlers in Cedar county coming here in 1855 and farming on what was then known as New York Prairie. During his active years he was a prominent and useful citizen in the community in which he lived, serving as Justice of the Peace and a school and township officer. He retired from a life of active work and removed to Tipton about thirty-five years ago where he continued to live until the time of his death and was a good citizen universally respected. He was a member of the N.Y. Society of Friends. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. R. McCaslin. The interment was in Masonic cemetery. He is survived by three children all of whom were present, viz; Mrs. S. E. Dearborn, Mrs. J. R. Welch of Nebraska, and Walter Sherwood.
