Robert Porter Scellars, son of Abraham and Susan Scellars was born in Louisa county, Iowa, November 26th, 1856 and departed this life July 24th, 1916 at his home in West Branch. Aged 59 years, 7 months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage with Jennie Marshall of Rochester, Ia. on Dec. 26th, 1882. To this union was born five children, of whom four with their mother are left to mourn the loss. They are: Earl E. of West Branch, Lewis W. and Elmer J. of Cedar Rapids and Della Mae, who lives in the parental home. One son, Ira C. dying in infancy. His mother and two brothers also survive. Also two grandchildren.

For over thirty years Mr. Scellars has made his home in West Branch and leaves a large circle of friends, who will miss him and mourn his loss. He was a member of the West Branch Lodge, I.O.O.F. He had never identified himself with any church, but recently confessed faith in Christ and died in full assurance and confidence which comes from faith in God. Kindly patience being one of the chief characteristics of his last days of sickness.

The funeral services were held from the home on South Downey street Wednesday at 3 p.m., conducted, in the absence of Rev. Mitchell, by Rev. W. B. Davis of Elberon, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. Charles Mesner of the Friends church. The interment was in the West Branch cemetery.

Those out of town present at the funeral were, his mother, Mrs. Susan York, of Muscatine, son, Elmer, and Mrs. Lou Scellars of Cedar Rapids, her husband being sick in the hospital at Cedar Rapids, His brother, George, of Wapello, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Koal of Lisbon, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Healey of Moscow, Mr. and Mrs. John Bair and son, Floyd of Rochester, Mrs. Henry Lehman of Magnolia, Minn., a sister of Mrs. Scellars.
