19 April 1911 - Tipton Conservative

Laura Elizabeth Sheldon, wife of F. L. Sheldon was born near Rock Creek, Cedar County, Iowa, Feb. 14, 1846. Her maiden name was Brown and her parents were early settlers in this county. They moved to Tipton when Laura was five years old. Here she grew to womanhood and lived until her marriage to F. L. Sheldon on April 9, 1868.

She has never lived outside of Cedar County. The whole of her married life except the past two years was spent on a farm near York Prairie. Here she lived and loved and worked and suffered awhile and died.

Many knew her, she had many friends. She was a sincere, straight forward, earnest faithful, christian soul. "A good woman" is what everybody says. A true woman, not perfect of course but among the best of us.

She was converted and united with the Methodist church in Tipton in 1858. She died a member of this church. About two years ago she brought her church letter from York Prairie and became a member of the church where as a girl of 12 years old she dedicated her life to God.

She has been an invalid for about two years, patiently suffering much pain. Her release came Saturday evening when she slipped away to be with God and to spend Easter in Heaven. It is well.

The world is a little better because she has lived in it and heaven is richer because she shares it.

The road will be a little steeper and the journey lonesome to her faithful husband but at the end her smile and welcome will greet him. So give thanks and press on.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday forenoon. The church was filled with old friends and neighbors. Some came from a distance to be present. There were many gifts of beautiful flowers. The pastor spoke the words of consolation and the body was laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery.
