C. J. Gatens

C. J. Gatens passed away at 5:30 o'clock Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. R. Regan, at Iowa City, after an illness of two weeks duration.

The funeral was held yesterday morning at 9:00 o'clock from St. Patrick's church. Interment was in the Cedar Valley cemetery.

Mr. Gatens was 66 years, three months and 24 days of age, and was a well-known and well-liked business man of Iowa City during the last 20 years. Prior thereto, he had served the public similarly, at Cedar Valley, where he was born and raised.

Surviving are his son, Mr. J. E. Gatens, of the First National bank; and three daughters, Mrs. C. R. Regan, of Iowa City, at whose home on Kirkwood avenue, he passed away; Miss Teresa Gatens, at home, in Iowa City; and Sister Mary St. Jane, of Wichita, Kansas. Mrs. Gatens, deceased, was Miss Mary McCook. There also survive two brothers and a sister--J. H. Gatens, Cedar Rapids; and W. T. Gatens, Tipton; and Mrs. S. R. McCook, Solon.

Mr. Gatens was a K. C., a brother of the A. O. H., and a member of St. Patrick's church, and its Holy Name society.

In all these organizations, he was a devoted and devout leader, and his great circle of friends, knowing him as a man of many fine attributes, will grieve long and deeply over his death.
