Francis Lehman passed away at 2 o'clock last Friday morning at his home in Iowa City. He has been ill with a complication of ailments for several months and the past couple of weeks he has been visibly failing.

Mr. Lehman was 78 years 3 months and 21 days of age, having been born October 13, 1819. His birthplace was Zofingen, Switzerland, and he came to this country in 1834, settling in New Jersey. He came to Iowa in 1854, and located in Cedar county where he lived continuously until two years ago. He then moved to Iowa City where he has since resided.

He leaves a wife, five sons and four daughters Edward of Pleasant Valley, Thomas R. Fred and Henry of Scott and John of Iowa City. Mrs. A. C. (Eliza) Hunter of West Branch, Mrs. C. E. (Emma) Hunt of Riverside, Idaho, Mrs. James (Rosa) Nelson of Tipton and Mrs. I. (Hattie) Barnes of Cedar county. Postmaster Tanner of Iowa City, is his nephew.

The funeral occurred Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the residence of W. H. Brown, two miles south of this city, the old home of his brother, Christian.

Mr. Lehman was well known throughout both Cedar and Johnson counties, as an upright, industrious citizen, and old settlers will greatly mourn his death.
