21 February 1924 - West Branch Times

Mary Naomi Forsyth, daughter of Wm. E. and Margaret Forsyth, was born at Colierstown, Va., Aug. 4th, 1849, and died at Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Feb. 15, 1924. She was united in marriage with Taylor McCaleb on Feb. 2, 1874. Thus she was permitted with her husband to walk side by side until after the fiftieth milestone was passed, and it was a joy to her heart to be granted this privilege to celebrate with her husband the 50th anniversary of their married relations.

From her girlhood she was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was always very much interested in those things which were for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom. Together with her husband she came to Iowa in 1880 and lived continuously in the state from that time with the exception of about four years they spent in Oklahoma.

Her life for about forty years was spent in this state, and practically in this community. Thus she was known and highly esteemed by a large number of friends.

She leaves a husband and foster son and daughter, Dr. J. W. Hill of Mt. Ayr and Mrs. E. Fenstermaker and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Stoker of West Liberty, together with one brother, Henry Forsyth of Ashland, Ky., and three sisters, Mrs. Geo. Teikbett of Virginia; Margaret Jack, West Branch, and Wilmona Pennock of West Branch.

Her end came in peace and she left a glorious hope of a life of immortal glory.

The funeral service was held Feb. 17 at the home of Margaret Jack, West Branch, conducted by her old pastor, Rev. Geo. Furniss. The interment took place in the beautiful cemetery of West Branch.

Those present from a distance were Mrs. Rachel Forsyth and Mrs. Wilmona Pennock, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Forsyth of Atalissa; Ephriam Fenstermaker and family and Martin Black of West Liberty; Z. T. McCaleb and Dr. J. W. Hill of Mt. Ayr.
