31 May 1900 - West Branch Times

A telegram on last Tuesday brought the sad news of the death of Anna B. Rich at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mae Mack of Garden City, Kansas. Mrs. Rich had, for some time, been a sufferer from nervous prostration and heart failure and upon the advice of her physician had gone to the scenes of her old home in Kansas that she might regain her health through perfect rest and a change of climate. She had not been in Garden City one week ere the silent messenger, Death called her spirit to its long home. Sister Anna B. Rich was born second month third, 1841, near Salem, Columbiana county, Ohio. At the age of nine years she came with her parents, Benjamin and Hannah L. Ball to Iowa. They settled near where the town of Springdale is now located. Later they moved to Keokuk county, Iowa and in 1858, settled in Atchison county, Kansas. In the same year she was united in marriage with Francis B. Rich. Four daughters and two sons were born to them. One daughter and one son having passed on before to the Spirit world, while four of their children with the husband survive to mourn the loss of a beloved and devoted mother and wife. The bereavement is not confined to the family alone but the entire community feel keenly the loss which we have sustained. Mrs. Rich was indeed a remarkable woman for many years she has successfully carried on an extensive mercantile business at the same time discharging her duties in the home. She was a member of Friends church and a devoted follower of Christ. Thoroughly versed in the Bible and enjoying at all times the communion of God's people. She was seldom absent from her place as teacher in the Sabbath school where her death has left a void not easily filled. Often, when fatigued with the cares of the day almost beyond endurance she has gone with her Bible to service or Bible Class that she might gain new truth. Mrs. Rich has always been a student. With patience and persistence, she pursued studies with her children and also graduated with credit in the Chataqu Association.
