14 September 1893 - West Branch Times

Esther S. Fogg died after a brief illness at the home of Bracken Negus and sisters in West Branch at 11 p.m., September 2nd, 1893.

She was the daughter of Shaidlock and Rachel Negus and was born near Damascus, Columbiana County Ohio December 12 1832. She moved with her fathers family to Muscatine county Iowa in 1846 consequently was one of the oldest settlers of this state. She married Charles Fogg in 1850 whom she survived nearly twenty one years. They lived on a farm three miles north of West Liberty at the time of his death. She was the youngest but one of nine children, four sons and five daughters, all who lived to be honorable men and women until past meridian of life, then one by one dropped off, now but three are left, one brother and two sisters Maria Hemingway only preceeding her to the better world about four months ago. She was the mother of four children, one died in babyhood and the others are Adna S. Fogg residing south of Springdale, Isabelle Sidwell of West Branch and Emily Hogue of near Coal Creek. She was a woman not only of strong character but of sterling worth, and whose life was full of good deeds. She stretched out her hand to the poor, and reached forth her hands to the needy. She was a zealous member of the Society of Friends known as the Wilber Branch, and was just returning from Quarterly Meeting at Springville when stricken with disease and passed through nature to eternity. The funeral at the house of her son Adna at 10 o'clock on the morning of the 5th and conducted according to the simple form of her sect, was largely attended by sympathizing friends and relatives, who mourn but not without hope.
