Another pioneer is gone with the passing of James C. Linn, Tuesday at midnight, of heart trouble, following a long and tedious illness.

Mr. Linn died at his home near Rochester, where he had lived for many years. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Reeder, of Tipton, and a son, Geo. D. Linn of West Branch.

The funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at one o'clock and at the Bethel church at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. G. Rowley.

30 March 1922 - West Branch Times

James Cleveland Linn was born Oct 10, 1844, in Muskinggum county, Ohio, and passed away at his home near West Branch, Iowa, March 22, 1922. His early boyhood days were spent in Ohio. When he was eleven years of age his parents came west to the then new frontier of Iowa. Mr. Linn knew fully the meaning of pioneer life. He united with the Presbyterian church in 1867.

January 26, 1868, he was united in marriage to Mary Carney and for more than half a century these two faced life's storms together, and for that same length of time, fifty-four years, Mr. Linn had lived on his small farm where he died. Death came after two years of declining health, but it did not find him faltering or afraid. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, a son, George of West Branch, Ia., and a daughter, Mrs. F. G. Reeder of Tipton, Ia. One son born to the home had died in infancy in 1875. There are two sisters, Mrs. Loretta Lightfoot of Eau Claire, Wis., and Mrs. Jane Crees of Lamont, Okla., and a brother, Andy, of West Branch. He had four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Practically all his life Mr. Linn followed the trade of a carpenter. In the building of both character and houses he seems to have had an ideal like that of which Saint Paul speaks when he says "As a wise master builder." Not long before his death he told a friend that he was not afraid to go because he had always tried to do what is right. For this reason there are many friends who will miss him.

The funeral service was held in the Bethel church Friday afternoon at half past one o'clock and interment was in the Bethel cemetery. Rev. W. G. Rowley officiated.
