DIED. ISAAC SLATER, died Saturday last about 5 o'clock p.m., aged 70 years. His death occurred in the poor house at Muscatine where he was taken after losing his eye-sight about one year ago, this misfortune in addition to St. Vitas dance with which he had been afflicted for sixty years rendered him so helpless that none of his folks were situated so as to take proper care of him and as he had ample means it was decided best for his own comfort to place him where he could receive the most benefit from it. His death was very sudden dropping from his chair he expired with out a struggle, apoplexy is supposed to have been the cause. He was the son of Abram and Mary Slater, born in Stark county Ohio but has been a resident of this part of Iowa for nearly 40 years. His remains were brought to this city Tuesday morning and taken to Honey Grove church where funeral services were held at 11 o'clock and where he was laid to rest.
