12 December 1984 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Elwood (Velma) Rhoads, 84, were held at the United Methodist church, Mechanicsville, Dec. 6 with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald and Horace Overbaugh, Dick and Sam Rhoads, Donald Pearson and Ben Albaugh.

Mrs. Rhoads died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, Dec. 3.

The daughter of Oscar and Edith McCleod Bleasdel, she was born at Tipton Nov. 4, 1900. She was educated in the Tipton and Mount St. Claire, Clinton, schools. She lived with her parents and helped her sister's family, Vera Bleasdel Buchanan, on the farm.

She was married to Elwood E. Rhoads in Cedar Rapids Dec. 22, 1921. They farmed for many years, moving to Mechanicsville Feb. 6, 1958. She was a member of the United Methodist church, the United Methodist Women, the King's Daughters, the Pollyannas and the Farm Bureau Women.

She is survived by her husband, 2 sons, Samuel Aaron, Cedar Rapids and David C., Aurora, Ill., 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Buchanan.
