DIED--At his home, one mile east of West Branch, Dec. 14th, 1893, Thomas Knight.

He was born in Grant county, Indiana, March 23, 1836, his parents being Christians and pioneers in that country, he with the other children of the family were early trained in honesty, industry and economy. In April 1862 he was married to Phoebe A. Pemberton, a first cousin to H. C. Pemberton, now a resident of this place. They came to Iowa in 1879, located in Marshall county, where he endeared himself to many especially those who were interested with him in active evangelical and philanthropic enterprise. For several years he has been serving the Friends church of which he was a life long member, as a leading and most influential elder. Last March he with his wife and minor children joined their son Nixon in possession and management of the Abner Branson Fruit Farm. They had very much enjoyed their new home and church relation as well as the many newly found friends and neighbors. But alas how uncertain is this life and every thing that portains to it. He was helping in the repairing of the church when he chanced to hurt his head but a little and almost unnoticed until on Monday morning, Dec. 11th, where they appeared some little symptoms of erysiplas. The Doctor was called at once, but in spite of the best medical skill and careful nursing the death threatening disease steadily moved on, and in less than four days from the time the disease was first discovered he departed this life, on the evening of the 14th, at 5 o'clock, leaving a wife and eight children, all of whom are living, with many warm and sympathizing friends to mourn his loss. But we have the greatest consolation in knowing that our loss is his eternal gain.
