Joseph Kadlec was born in Bohemia, Jan. 16, 1852, and passed away Sept. 1, 1922, at his home west of West Branch, Iowa, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 16 days. He came to America in June 1869, and was united in marriage to Mary Krofta, Oct. 16, 1874. She with two sons and three daughters survive him. Thomas, the eldest son passed away seven years ago. The surviving children are namely: Wesley, living near Tipton; Anna (Mrs. John Galvin) living near Solon and Emma, Mayme and Joseph at home. He also leaves three brothers: Wesley at Ely; John at Cedar Rapids and Martin Kunel at Solon.

The funeral was held Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Wenceslaus church, Iowa City, and the interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mr. Kadlec was one of the best known and most highly esteemed citizens of Johnson and Cedar counties, having passed the past 53 years of his life in these communities. He will be greatly missed by his old friends and neighbors in each of the counties where he had long ago established his good name and high standing.

Many from a distance attended the funeral. Among them were his brother Wesley and family of Ely; his brother John and family of Cedar Rapids; Joseph Krofta and family of College township in Linn county; Joseph Pecka and family, Frank Fricek and Dr. Valenta of Cedar Rapids, Martin Kunel, Thos., John and Wesley Krofta, Frank Bednar and family, Fred Beranek, and Mrs. F. J. Bittner, all of Solon; John Sueppell and family and Mrs. Cole and family of Iowa City Mrs. Geo. Douglass and son Franklin of Marion.
