2 August 1923- West Branch Times

Little Forrest Roegler, the three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Roegler, living two and one-half miles west of town, who was severely scalded three weeks ago, passed away at the hospital at Iowa City early yesterday evening.

A gallant fight was made to save the little lad's life and for a time it seemed possible that he would recover. This week he had been failing until the angel of mercy released his spirit. Many friends have anxiously hoped for his recovery and extend sincere sympathy to the bereft family.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 from the Harmon Mortuary at Iowa City. Rev. S. E. Ellis will be assisted by Rev. W. G. Rowley. The singers will be from West Branch.

9 August 1923 - West Branch Times

Forrest Burdette Roegler was born April 29, 1920. He passed to his home beyond from Rohrbacher hospital, August 1, 1923, aged 3 years, 3 months and 2 days, after about three week' intense suffering.

The vigorous, bright affectionate little fellow was a cheery sunbeam in his home, a joy to his grandparents and a blessing to many friends. He gave evidence of his religious teaching when the little sufferer said, "Jesus make Boydie well."

He is preceded by a little brother and is mourned by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Roegler, and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roegler, Mrs. Margaret Rader and many others.

"Dark gloom and heavy grief weigh our hearts today;
But joy supreme is coming to us and it will last always
The glorified smile on the dear little face
The shout of his welcoming voice will leave our sadness no vestige or trace, and will say, 'God's will is our choice'".

The funeral services was held at the Harmon chapel at 3:30 Thursday afternoon, Rev. W. Glenn Rowley of West Branch and Rev. Dr. Sylvester E. Ellis of Iowa had charge of the services.

Interment was in the Oakland cemetery.
