21 March 1912 - West Branch Times (copied in part from the Stafford (Kans.) Courier)

This community was greatly shocked Tuesday morning by the news that E. C. Collins had dropped dead the evening before at his home near Neola. Monday afternoon he walked to Neola for the mail and shortly after returning asked Mrs. Collins for something to relieve a pain in the region of his heart. Afterwards he seemed to feel better and went to the barn to do his evening chores. Just a few mintues later his step-daughter, Miss Bessie Jolly, went out and found Mr. Collins dead in the corn crib. He had apparently filled a basket with corn and had fallen when he attempted to lift the load. It was found that the bursting of a blood vessel was the cause of his death.

Edwin Smith Collins was born near West Branch, Iowa, Oct. 25, 1852, and died near Neola, Kansas, on March 11, 1912. He was married to Miss Sadie Frazier at Rockland Chapel, Jefferson county, Colorado, on Jan. 1, 1861. One child was born to them, Miss Rena, who because of ill health is making her home with an uncle at Pendleton, Oregon. Mrs. Collins died eight years after her marriage, and on March 16, 1892, Mr. Collins was united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Jolly, who survives him.

Mr. Collins had been a resident of this county for many years and had a wide circle of friends. He was a kind husband and father, an excellent neighbor and a faithful and true friend.
