John M. Hemingway died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. D. Allison, 121 North Caldwell street, Fort Scott, Kan., Monday evening at 5:35 o'clock, after a short illness; aged 76 years, 5 months and 16 days.

He was born at Salem, Ohio, March 3, 1836, and came to Iowa in the early forties.

Mr. Hemingway was married to Elizabeth H. Varney, March 3, 1859, and there were born to them ten children, one dying in infancy. His wife and nine children survive him.

Eight children were present at the funeral: E. L. Hemingway of Panama, Neb.; Mrs. I. B. Lamborn of Palmyra, Neb.; Mrs. S. V. Frey of Indianola, Neb.; Mrs. T. M. Lodge of Downey; Allen Hemingway of West Liberty, Emmett Hemingway, Trenton, Mo.; U. Earl Hemingway, Ash Grove, Mo; Mrs. C. D. Allison, Fort Scott, Kan. He was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery, Thursday morning, Aug. 22.
