NEGUS - died at his home in Springdale, Iowa, 6 mo. 15, 1891, aged 74 years, Israel Negus.

He was born in Fayette Co. Pennsylvania, 1812. When twenty years old he moved to Columbiana county, Ohio, In 1836 he married Lydia Garwood. To them was born five children, two of whom, Jesse and Jason, are still living. His first wife died in 18??.

In 1845 he married Ruth Warrington, whose death was just two weeks previous to his own. He moved to Iowa in 1850 and settled in Cedar county the same year.

It is but seldom that the death of an aged person calls forth feelings of so much sorrow and grief as the subject of this notice. He was an earnest Christian and a birthright member of the Friends' church. Although he was not always ready to … with the actions of … he remained with and enjoyed sweet Christian fellowship with the main body of the society of Friends whom he was retained in the position of elder for over thirty-five years and until his death.

Warm, genial and kind by nature, he endeared himself to every one and became a counselor in times of need to many of his friends and relatives. His death was easy and without a struggle. His sickness was not that of severe pain, the experience simply of a … feeling as of one who finds men on the long course of life.

During his last sickness, he many times expressed his thankfulness to Providence that his prayer find them answered and his petition granted that he might live to see his companion … away who had been so great a … for some time. He enjoyed life and lived to be spared a while longer …
