ELVIRA FAWCETT NEGUS was born December 8, 1822, and died July 24, 1912. Within these two dates is embraced all the sunshine and shadow of a human life

Just at the close of day, with the setting of the sun, she passed peacefully to rest. She was of a modest, retiring disposition, thinking not of self but always of others, ever ready and efficient in helping with the sick, needy or afflicted.

On Dec. 27, 1848, she was united in marriage with Elisha Negus and on the wild prairies of Iowa they reared their home, and bravely facing the hardships incident to pioneer life. In 1882 she was left a widow and since had lived with her children, ever patient, uncomplaining and grateful for every deed done for her, with willing hands to help to the last.

She was a birthright member of the Society of Friends and lived a faithful Christian life.

Five children survive her, Elma M. Mather, Rachel N. Fogg, Esther R. Ellyson, all of Springdale; Mary N. Rood of the Isle of Pines, and Henry Negus of Iowa City. Eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, also survive her.

Three brothers, Jacob B. and Isaac Fawcett of Minneapolis, and Elwood Fawcett of Evanston, Ills., mourn her death.

She had been bedfast since last December, her last days being spent in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eb Fogg, where loving hands cared for every need. All the children were present at the funeral except Mary Rood.

The fuenral was held at the Friends church at Springdale, Friday, July 26, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ernest I. Gregory.
