11 May 1911 - West Branch Times

Susanna, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth James, was born Fifth Mo., 26, 1832, in Columbiana county, Ohio, and was the fourth of nine children, two dying in infancy.

In the spring of 1853 the widowed mother, with her family, moved to Cedar county, coming with others across the country in covered wagons. They settled on a farm, where she resided most of the time until her marriage, 11th Mo. 4, 1863, in Columbiana county, to Milton D. Fowler. They settled near Bartlett, Ohio, which was their home until 1894, when they came to West Branch, where she has since resided.

On 3rd Mo. 22, 1911, she sustained a broken hip, and after five weeks of suffering as only such accidents can bring, she peacefully passed away, on the morning of 4th Mo. 27, aged 78 years, 11 months and 29 days.

She was laid to rest in the Friends burying ground at Hickory Grove, beside the husband who, nine years ago, entered the Great Beyond. She leaves to mourn her loss a sister, Phoebe Crozer of this place, and a brother, Smith James of Pasadena, Cal., beside numerous other relatives and friends.
