16 February 1911 - West Branch Times

Aaron Eaton, the son of James and Hannah Eaton, was born Sept. 22, 1824, near St. Clairsville, Belmont county, Ohio. He was one of nine children, seven sons and two daughters. Of this family he was the youngest and also the last to pass from this life.

Mr. Eaton lived in the place of his birth till 1866. He was married in 1845 to Miss Lydia Elliott. Six children were born to them, three of these died in infancy. In 1866 Mr. and Mrs. Eaton with their family moved to Iowa and spent one year near West Liberty and then moved to a farm near West Branch, Iowa where they continued to live till 1891, from which time till their deaths they made their home in West Branch.

The married life of these respected people was remarkable in that four and one-half years more would have rounded out three score years and ten. Mrs. Eaton died Jan. 10, 1911. Since then Mr. Eaton failed gradually. He had a desire to depart, to be with the companion of this life and his Lord, but he realized that a period of waiting might be required of him. His body became as unsteady and uncertain as that of a little child but his mind was wonderfully clear for one of his age and so near the end. Death did not come without intense suffering, but amid this he expressed appreciation for medical help which was rendered him and also that the family physician of years past is at the present time able to enjoy a well earned rest in the Southland.

Death came Feb. 9th only 30 days after the death of the wife. During the years to which the afternoon of life lengthened out, the daughter, Mrs. Louisa Branson, of West Branch and two sons J. W. Eaton and H. C. Eaton, resident of Chanute, Kans., and the grandchildren have made the welfare and comfort of these aged ones a matter of first importance. But when the time for earthly care comes to a close, we can commend the spirits of our loved ones to the care of him who is our Heavenly Father.

The sympathy of a host of friends goes out to these mourning ones who have experienced loss by death so many times in recent months.

The funeral was held from the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. E. A. Lang pastor of the M.E. church, with interment in the local cemetery.
