6 February 1930 - West Branch Times

Albert W. Lodge was born in Downey, Iowa, March 25, 1868, and died at his farm home near Haswell, Colo., Jan. 27, 1930. He had been a sufferer from an injury for more than four years, but the end came without warning in the middle of plans for the day. The wide circle of friends and kindred were greatly shocked by his sudden demise.

He grew to manhood and received his education in the vicinity and state of his birth and was united in marriage to Miss Lessie Gates in Iowa on Jan. 31, 1894, thirty-six years ago. In the year of 1907 they came with their family to Hasswell, Colo., took up land there and still own the ranch and live on it.

Mr. Lodge was a princely man, who stood for every good thing with a courage that was unflinching and admirable. His Christian manhood was unquestioned, and his disposition to keep and enforce the law was well known.

His faithful and loyal wife loved by all who knew her, and three sons survive him: Russell who is yet at home, Clayton of Paonia, Colo., Ralph of Las Animas. The entire north country is in fullest sympathy and all have vied with each other, in a kindly way, to bring comfort and help in every possible way.

The funeral was held in the church at Hawwell Thursday, conducted by the pastor, Dr. Geo H. Stuntz. The body was accompanied to Iowa by Mrs. Lodge and her son Clayton. Services were conducted Sunday by Rev. D. H. Howry at the Snider Chapel at West Liberty. Interment was made in the Downey cemetery. The many friends and relatives of this community wish to extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
