16 January 1930 - West Branch Times

As the old year was drawing to a close, so closed the earthly life of Mrs. Rosa Sailor on Dec. 31, 1929, at her home in Cedar Bluff, Iowa.

Rosa Minerva Longerbeam was born in Washington county, Ohio, June 17, 1851, and had reached the age of 78 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Her mother died when she was a baby and her Grandfather and Grandmother Longerbeam cared for her. At about two years of age they brought her to Iowa and settled in Johnson county. Here she grew to young womanhood.

She was united in marriage to Elias Sailor March 11, 1877. Mr. Sailor had distinguished himself by answering his country's call and enlisting with the 22d Iowa Infantry in 1862. After their marriage they made their home in Coon Creek vicinity for over fifty years, where they were held in highest esteem by their neighbors and friends.

Mr. Sailor preceded her in death on June 11, 1927. To this union seven children were born. Three died in infancy and Harry in October of 1903. Three children are left to mourn the death of their aged mother, John and Charles of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Belle Longerbeam of Coon Creek. Besides her children there remain two full sisters, Mrs. Laura Fankhauser and Mrs. Hannah Stranbro; one brother, Jack Longerbeam; also eight half-brothers and sisters, George, Charles, Balsam and T. C. Longerbeam; Mrs. Rachel Faurot, Mrs. Rossie Beaver, Mrs. Martha Davis and Tillie Longerbeam. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren are numbered with the remaining ones.

Funeral services were held in the Coon Creek church Thursday, Jan. 2, conducted by Rev. James Balz of Mt. Vernon. A large audience filled the church, and the casket was covered with many beautiful floral pieces, tokens of love by relatives and friends. Beautiful hymns were sung by a quartet of the Federated church of Lisbon, with Miss Daisy Burd as accompanist. Interment was made in the Mason cemetery.--Tipton Conservative
