29 January 1890 - The Tipton Conservative

Susan Leverich was born in Gernsey county, Ohio, Nov 22, 1811. Moved with her parents to Richland county, Ohio, and there in 1829, was married to Lewis Sweltzer, who died in 1833, leaving her with three small children. In 1837, accompanied by her brother, John Leverich, who died a few weeks previous to her death, she moved to Cedar county, Iowa, where she bought herself and each of her children a claim, and lived there for more than 40 years. In 1842 she was married to Hiram Davis. Four children were born to them, two of whom preceeded her to the other world. In the fall of 1882 she moved with her husband to Shell Rock, Iowa where she died Jan. 10, 1890. For several years she had been quite an invalid, but for some time past had seemed to be improving. On Monday evening, Jan. 6th, at about 8 p.m. she was stricken with paralysis, which left her blind and helpless, and from then gradually failed until death. A brother and her two youngest sons were telegraphed for (her three younger children being with her) and all arrived before her death. For 37 years she had been a faithful member of the M.E. church, living constantly the religion she professed, and was well prepaired for the change which took her to be with her master.
