5 July 1906 - The Clarence Sun

Alexander Stuart Grant was born in Andes, Delaware county, New York, July 8, 1826, and died at his home in Clarence, July 3, 1906. On Feb. 18, 1858, he was united in marriage with Jane McGregor, who died Aug. 30, 1897. After his marriage he settled on the old Grant homestead near Andes, N. Y. On Jan. 31, 1871, he departed with his family for Iowa and settled on a farm three miles north of Clarence. He resided there until the spring of 1891, then removing to Clarence, where he has lived continuously since.

His illness was of short duration, he being confined to his bed only three days. It was the first time since coming to Iowa, thirty-five years ago, that he was compelled to keep his bed on account of sickness.

He is survived by three children--Alex of Clarence, Mrs. D. L. Sylvester of Surprise, Neb., and John of Stanwood.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon by Rev. M. J. Locke at the home at 2 o'clock, and interment followed at the Clarence cemetery.
