6 April 1905 - The Clarence Sun

Tuesday morning about 9 o'clock, Leonard Petersen, 19 years old, bookkeeper in the Lowden Savings Bank, suicided by hanging himself in Chas. Heiner's barn in Lowden. Leonard's warm friends were numbered by his acquaintances and all have been greatly shocked by the news of his death. His mother suicided in the same manner about a year after his birth and to inheritance his rash act is mostly attributed. His troubles were all imaginary and had he confided them to his relatives temporary insanity would never have overtaken him. From a paper found with him it would seem that he thought that a difference in religious belief stood between him and Miss Freda Kemmann, to whom he had paid attention. The paper showed wear and had evidently been carried in his pocket for a time, but he did not show any signs of depression even when last talked to. He was naturally cheerful and greeted pleasantly everyone he met. Lowden has never been moved to deeper mourning that by the untimely death of Leonard Petersen. The funeral is being held today, the remains to be laid at rest at Durant beside those of his mother.
