27 February 1902 - The Clarence Sun

Mary A. Flansburg passed from earthly scenes to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 19, 1902, from the home of her son E. E. Flansubrg, near Mechanicsville, Iowa. She was born April 18, 1832 at Berne, Albany Co., N.Y. In 1852 she was married to Walter Flansburg. Twelve children, one daughter and eleven sons were born to them. The husband, who died nearly two years ago, the daughter and four sons have all preceded her to their eternal home, leaving seven sons to mourn her loss. The family came to Iowa in 1867 and settled in Cedar county, in which their home has been ever since. Mrs. Flansburg has been a great sufferer, especially during the past three years, when she had a stroke of paralysis and from which she never recovered. For the past nine weeks she had been confined to her bed. Her last few days were spent in unconsciousness and death finally came as a relief. Both Mr. and Mrs. Flansburg were devoted Christians and members of the M.E. church. The latter joined under the labors of Rev. E. L. Miller, in 1873. They were careful in the training of their children and the surviving sons may find comfort in the memories of the years gone by. The funeral was held in the M. E. church, on Friday, February 20, conducted by the pastor, W. H. Doner and the remains was interred in the Clarence cemetery beside those of her husband.
