Mrs. Anthony Cosgriff (nee Catharine Burk) was born in County Cork, Ireland, April 2,1830, and died at her home in Clarence, Tuesday, September 24, 1901, of catarrh of the stomach. She was one of the very early settlers of Cedar county, having come to Tipton in 1855 with her husband after their marriage in Chicago, October 29, 1854. She is survived by her now aged husband and four children, Ella, wife of J. G. Cessford, Edward, William and Mary, who were present at the funeral and who have lost a loving wife and mother.

The funeral was very largely attended on Thursday following her death and was held at the Catholic church in Clarence, of which she was a member. The services were conducted by Rev. Father Gillespie of Mechanicsville. F. H. Jurgensen, T. Kane, H. Lohman, J. Smith, M. O'Connor and H. Arter acted as pallbearers.
