11 April 1901 - The Clarence Sun

A horrible accident befell Henry Schneckloth, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Schneckloth, who live north of Sunbury, last Thursday, that resulted in his death. The young man was cutting stalks in the field, and his team tried to run away. In his efforts to stop them, he lost his balance and fell down in front of the huge knives, which chopped him, as the team ran, in a horrible manner. The team only ran about 20 rods when striking the mud at a slough, stopped and stood there until a neighbor came in answer to the cries of the lad, who was pinned down under the knives. The neighbor who came to the lad's assistance had to back the knives off from the lad before he could be gotten loose. Help was secured and the injured boy was taken to Sunbury, but no doctor could be found and he had to wait until Dr. Burns of Durant could be gotten there. His suffering was intense, but he remained conscious almost to the last. The knives had gotten in their deadly work and nothing could be done to save him. He died at 10 o'clock on that night and was buried at Durant on Sunday, Rev. Steffen conducting the funeral service. The Republican joins the friends of the grief stricken family in offering sympathy.--Tipton Republican.
