14 April 1887 - The Tipton Advertiser

GODDEN--Clara Elizabeth, 6-year old daughter of Edwin H. and Elizabeth E. Godden, died at home in the north part of town, of membraneous croup, April 7th, 1887.

During the last hours of her sickness, she called her parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters to her bedside and kissed them goodbye; she said she was going to leave them. Little Clara has left her home and friends on earth and has gone to live and sing with Jesus in heaven--He who said "Of such is the kingdom of Heaven." Dear friends, be ready to meet God and loved ones in heaven. The funeral took place at the house, conducted by Rev. P. A. Keoppel. She was then taken to the cemetery and laid beside her little brother. Their bodies sleep side by side, but their spirits are safe with Jesus.

"Oh, how I should like to have been with Him then,
When Jesus took children as lambs to his fold--How I should like to have been with Him then."
