1 May 1862 - The Tipton Advertiser

Carlton J. Frine, killed at the battle of Pittsburg Landing, April 6th, 1862, aged 18 years, 11 mo's and 20 days.

He went from Iowa in the 11th regiment. He was very young, and his friends felt it impossible to let him go; but the fire of patriotism burned brightly in his youthful bosom, and he could not stay when his country called. He said, "Let me go, Father, when I come home I shall be a man." Alas, he now sleeps his last sleep on the bank of the Tennessee, and his loving family are left to mourn the untimely but honored death of a dutiful son and affectionate brother.
