30 January 1868- The Tipton Advertiser

DIED, in Tipton, Cedar county, Iowa, January 27th, 1868, MRS. MELISSA A. CLARK, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary Schmueker, and consort of Mr. E. W. Clark, (one of the editors and proprietors of "The Tipton Advertiser.")

The deceased was born in Pennsylvania, April 26th, 1840, and was therefore at her decease, 27 years and 9 months old.

On the 19th of December, 1858, she made a profession of her faith in Christ, and was received into the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tipton, by the solemn rite of Confirmation. Her death was sudden, and unexpected to her husband, and friends; although for some months previous to her decease, she had not enjoyed good health.

She leaves a deeply bereaved husband, an only son, an aged venerable father and mother; four brothers, and two sisters; and a large circle of sympathizing friends, to mourn her early departure from the land of the dying.

Her remains were taken to the Lutheran Church, where a large concourse of citizens and friends; (not withstanding the severity of the weather,) were assembled, to pay their last token of respect, to one, whom they had esteemed in life. The Pastor of the church, assisted by the Pastor of the M.E. Church, made some appropriate remarks, based on Matthew 24:44: "Therefore be ye also ready; for in such an hour as ye think not, the son of man cometh."

Her remains were taken to the Cemetery, and deposited in the silent grave, to await the resurrection morn.

May the Lord in his infinite mercy, sanctify this painful bereavement, to the spiritual, and eternal welfare of her surviving husband and friends--comfort them with the consolations of His grace, and prepare us all, for the closing scene of life, and a blissful immortality.
