Death of G. G. Chandler -- Word was received her yesterday of the death of G. G. Chandler at his home in Pardeeville, Wis. The body will be brought to Tipton for burial beside his first wife and the funeral party is expected to arrive some time today.

Mr. Chandler was for many years a resident of this community and one of its best known citizens. He was a veteran of the 24th Iowa and always active in the organization maintained by the Co. C boys after the war. He served it as Orderly Sergeant and gave generously of his time in keeping in touch with the boys who were scattered throughout many states.

Following the death of Mrs. Chandler he moved to Pardeeville, Wis., where his son is living. He was married again at that place a few years ago and lost this companion by death two weeks ago. Further particulars regarding the life of this good man will be published later.

George Gates Chandler was born at Andover, Mass., December 18th, 1837, and died at Pardeeville, Wis., Feb. 5th, 1914, aged 76 years, 1 mo. and 17 days.

He came to Cedar Co. in the spring of 1861 and enlisted in Company C of the 24th Iowa Infantry, August 5th, 1862. He was elected first sergeant of the company and served as orderly until discharged. He was a charter member of Wm. Beaver post, and seldom missed a meeting.

In 1884 he commenced to get a complete record of the Company and inaugurated the plan of company reunions to be held every two years, commencing at his home, and was in touch with all the members of the Company until the day of his death. Thirty-two members of the Company survive him.

He was married to Augusta L. Hammond August 15th, 1862. To them were born four children. George G. who died in infancy, Louise Parsons, who died at 22 years of age, Joseph of Pardeeville, Wis., and Augusta H. of this place.

After the war he lived one year in Massachusetts and then returned to Iowa and resided in Cedar County until 1898, when he moved to Wisconsin. Mrs. Chandler died Dec. 6th, 1898. He was married Oct. 18th, 1903, to Susannah Stancer of Pardeeville, Wis., who departed this life only three weeks before him.

He was a constant and consistent Christian. Raised a Congregationalist he remained such until 1867, when he joined the Methodist Episcopal church of York Prairie and continued his connection until moving to Tipton in 1890, when he transferred his membership here, and in 1899 to Pardeeville, Wis.
