25 November 1896 - The Tipton Conservative

CASEBEER - John Casebeer was born Oct. 2, 1812, in Pennsylvania. Moved to Dayton, Ohio when three years old and to Iowa in 1839.

Was married August 6, 1845, to Lucinda Humphrey, and died Nov. 29, 1896. He was the father of seven children, five of whom, with their mother, still survive. He leaves behind no brilliant record, but a gentle memory, cherished by all who knew him. His life work is done--faithfully done. The community is the better for his having lived in it. He was a faithful, plodding pioneer who knew and suffered hardships. He was always charitable, never bigoted, and welcomed gladly the easier modes of life that he saw grow up around him. He was a shock of ripened grain gathered in its season.

The funeral was conducted Saturday from the late residence of the deceased, southeast of town, by Rev. W. W. Johnson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and the remains laid to rest in West Bethel cemetery.
