Clara Florence, the daughter of Aaron and Mary Marker Wisener, was born Feb. 29, 1864 in Versailles, Ohio. The Wisener family moved to Cedar county when she was 6 weeks old.

She attended the Tipton schools and, before graduation, passed the examination for a teacher's certificate. She was assigned to teach Dayton No. 10 near Mechanicsville in 1883. Her salary ranged from $10 to $40 a month.

She was married to James Britcher Feb. 22, 1888. They farmed for 15 years and moved to Tipton in 1903. They built the home in which Mrs. Britcher lived for more than 60 years. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1938. A year later Mr. Britcher died.

Mrs. Britcher was a woman of remarkable energy. She was the active manager of a Cedar county farm until her death. She was a poet, a painter, a newspaper correspondent and church worker. Most of all she was interested in people and the world about her.

She was an officer of the Tipton Methodist church for 35 years, 25 of them as financial secretary. She was also a member of the W.S.C.S. She was a member of many woman's groups and clubs during her active lifetime.

She wrote and collected poetry and developed a considerable talent in oil painting. Her favorite portrait, for sentimental reasons was one of her husband.
