Mrs. P. C. Clifford died at her home in Downey Sunday, September 9, 1934, after an illness of several weeks duration. The Rev. D. H. Howry conducted the funeral service at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Clifford has been a member of this community for forty years during which time she was a kind friend and neighbor to all.

She was a daughter of Horace C. and Lucy M. Smith and was born February 2, 1864, at High Market, N. Y. She was united in marriage to Perry C. Clifford, May 8, 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford moved to Scott township in 1884 and to Downey in 1895.

In early life she was baptized into the Presbyterian church but since 1895 she has been a faithful member of the Downey Baptist church, being a tireless worker in the Sunday school, sewing circle and B.Y.P.U.

Mrs. Clifford is survived by her husband, P. C. Clifford, and three children, Mrs. Fred Berry of Downey, Mrs. William Bickford of Iowa City and one son Winsor H. Clifford of Cedar Rapids. One sister, Hattie, and a brother Frank, of New York. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in the Downey cemetery.
