3 February 1876 - The Tipton Advertiser

Of apoplexy, at Rochester, January 27th, Cordis Hardman, aged 50 years, 8 months and 27 days, leaving a wife, one daughter and three sons.

The deceased with the oldest son of Col. Hardman, one of the old and esteemed citizens of this county. He moved to Iowa from the State of Ohio, Aug. 3d, 1836, and was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ann Wise, April 10th, 1845.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Rochester; and his funeral was preached by Rev. Wm. Young, in the M. E. Church, at Bethel, on Sunday morning, from that appropriate text found in 1st Peter, 1st Chap., 24th and 25th verses, to an immense audience.

The lodges of Tipton, Wilton and Rochester were represented at the funeral, and conducted the services at the grave where the mortal remains of him whom they had esteemed were laid, (with Masonic honors), by the side of two of his children, in the grave yard adjoining the church, to quietly rest there until awakened by the archangel's trump at the resurrection morn.
