2 June 1932 - The Tipton Advertiser

Charles Kratzer, Cedar county farmer residing on the old Carl farm four miles north of Tipton on primary road 38 was killed Sunday afternoon in an accident with a gun. Mr. Kratzer and his half- brother Earl Kratzer of Chicago, were shooting ground squirrels on the farm that afternoon when a charge was accidentally fired by the Chicago brother, striking Charles in the back of the head. Mr. Kratzer was fifty-one years of age and is survived by the widow and four children, as well as his parents who reside at Walker.

Two of the half-brothers had come out from Chicago for the week end and to remain over Memorial Day. The men had gone out to shoot and the accident happened as Charles was leaning over a brush heap building a fire and raised up just in time to get the bullet fired from the gun of his half-brother. He died very shortly after the accident.
